    Not true, you can hear bass through a phone speaker if it's mixed well. Usually the bassist is using dead strings with zero treble and the producer mixes it down bc it doesn't add anything. If you have a good bass tone and a good producer it will always be present and useful in the mix

    You’ve swung, and hit, the precise center of the head of the nail, here. I was self-taught 8 years, and had full creative freedom. Music school actually put me in a box musically in a lot of ways. It took me over 10 years to unlearn a lot of the “rules” and found myself at the same freedom as when I was young. Theory is cool…but technique? How does it sound? Does it sound cool? Cause that’s what matters. Does the sound you wished to achieve, now exist. That’s the outcome of creative freedom, *especially in technique*. Music is a language and everyone deserves their own voice in it.

    just make sure it doesnt hurt when you play the instrument, otherwise you will not be playing that instrument for much longer, "proper technique" can be a good jumping off point, but shouldn't be the end all be all of music making

    Just play what you like, technique and knowledge is over rated. All that time in college and jazz band just to end up making commercial jingles or stuck in a cover band. Play whatever you like and let you passion be the wind behind your sails.

      You clearly know nothing about music. You think bassists are useless and people like Clay Gober of Polyphia would prove you wrong. Hell even bands like Zeplin or the Stones knew the importance of a strong and clear bass performance. To sit and hate on bassists is like saying drums are useless as both are the core to a track. I play both guitar and bass and both serve two completely different purposes in most modern music. Go take a theory class before you talk out your bum, you bum.

      what are you yapping about? almost nothing you typed makes sense, relates to anything else you said, or even have anything to do with the topic of the short. i think you forgot your meds man lmao

    • @thelumpylobster
      @thelumpylobster День тому

      @@dxzzydxm5518 I think they’re trying to make a “ha ha, gotcha!” remark about how- if bass is often inaudible to casual listeners- that bands should just stop having bass players altogether. At first I assumed this was a goofy voice-to-text message, but no system would output such trash grammar and punctuation. This is clearly just a disgruntled person trying to punch down on bassists. 🤷‍♀️ It’s double ironic how they felt the need to disparage bass players on a YT short that talks about this very topic (and how it’s not that bass is inaudible, it’s that most don’t know ‘what’ to listen for). The fact that the bass is indeed audible in most music (with some exceptions; looking at you Metallica!) when you know what to listen for makes this even more of a ridiculous statement to make. They assume all bands that have a bassist are 4-pieces, and also that they will be playing music that doesn’t highlight the bass in the mix (surprisingly uncommon in a lot of modern mainstream music!). They also reduce the bassist’s live role to that of being a “subtle surprise,” that people “didn’t come to see during live shows.” This really reads as someone who has never been to like… any live show ever. I can’t recall any live music event (non acoustic) that didn’t have bass pumping through the PA that was felt by the crowd. Guitar is mostly heard not felt and bass felt not heard, but both do both things in a mix. And *shocker* some people actually just like the sound of the bass. Depriving an audience of that because you don’t understand the role the instrument fits in the greater band picture is childlike on your part. So yes, OP. The bass does add something to both the studio and live mixes for music across most genres. If this YT short challenged your arbitrary anti-bass ego, you can always keep scrolling instead of posting a stream-of-consciousness word soup that serves only to make yourself look out of touch. Have the kind of day you deserve.

    I find myself always stuck after those steps. I don't know how to lead a song into that melody and chord progression, how to keep the song interesting and not too repetetive, how to end the song, how to make instruments sounds good. Everytime I would write a simple song on a guitar I'd struggle with developing it further, I'd find an interesting chord progression and melody but wouldnt know where to go from there, "should the song have a bridge section" or "should it also have a pre-chorus section". Do you plan it all out ahead or you kinda "send it" and shape the song as you make it? Btw, I found your channel yesterday and there's a ton of helpful material over here so huuge thank you for that!

    I started just over 6 months ago too late in life. I was suddenly overcome with a NEED to know what it feels like to play guitar, to think it and play it, more importantly to play without thinking. Im starting to get a glimpse of what it will feel like. Once i reach competency, there will always be more to learn. Since it happened I have picked it up and played\practiced a minimum of 5x a day, even if for only a minute a couple of times. Not a day missed in 6 to 8 months. Even when i went to a remote island for 2 weeks off the coast of southern central Belize. I made sure the first week to order an affordable lightweight carbon fiber parlor guitar that i can even practice when cooking, walking in rain, or sit on the couch with the dog on it. Then i got a 2.2lb traveler guitar that fits on the side of a bookbag. Basically a headless strat neck with a piezo. That lets me take it backpacking, flying, and it lives behind the seat of my work van so i can practice at redlights. Im mostly joking. You can lay the neck in your lap and work on calluses or finger exercises any old time. I got a little obsessed but the important part is having the need. I will get there however slowly. I wasted the first 40 years, I wont lose another day. Even though im in construction I made it so in my daily routine I am never more then a couple minutes from a guitar that i can pickup and I do. I dont bringnit on the site, but waiting for something to be ready, play in the van. At home, I'm never more than 10feet from one. Practice on a different headless into headphones that i got for travel (but liked too much) while the lady sleeps.

  • @cisummusic22
    @cisummusic22 3 дні тому

    If you’re really serious about your guitar playing, you might need to put some more time into it But yes! If your goal is to get better at guitar in any capacity, then the worst thing you can do is go an entire day without picking up your guitar at all! Even if your goal is guitar superstardom, don’t let a daunting practice routine keep you away from actually playing. If you only have enough time to do 2% of your practice routine, it’s probably more important to play and have fun than anything else. Also, and I mean this very kindly. Try to make a conscious effort to not look at your guitar while you play it. You’re trying to form a connection between your hand and your ears not your hand and your eyes. And if you are trying to make a connection between your hands and eyes, might I suggest baseball instead.
